What's New This Week? Vintage Plates and a Seasonal Grapefruit Salad, Ending Summer on a Bright Note.

I love sharing the treasures I uncover for Fig Hollow Farm, and this week’s finds are a true treat for anyone who adores vintage glassware. There’s something magical about how these pieces not only hold history but also add a touch of timeless charm to the table. Pair that with a simple seasonal recipe, and you’ve got yourself the perfect way to savor the last days of summer.

This Week’s Finds

Indiana Glass Company, Indiana Colony Harvest Grape Milk Glass Luncheon Plates

Indiana Milk Glass Luncheon Plates, Set of 4

The Harvest Grape pattern is one of Indiana Glass Company’s most beloved designs. Produced under the “Indiana Colony” line, these luncheon plates are a wonderful example of milk glass at its finest; white, luminous, and embossed with clusters of grapes and trailing leaves. Perfect for serving up light lunches or desserts, they strike that sweet spot between elegant and everyday practical. I love how they reflect a mid-century vision of entertaining, when even a simple meal felt elevated with the right presentation.

Mid-Century Vintage Federal Glass, Pioneer Fruit Pattern Luncheon Plates

Federal Glass Luncheon Plates, set of 6

The second find this week brings us more mid-century goodness, this time from Federal Glass. The Pioneer Fruit pattern is cheerful and versatile, showcasing raised fruit designs that catch the light beautifully. These luncheon plates are sturdy yet stylish, featuring a sawtooth edge, a recessed fruit design in the center, making them a wonderful addition for collectors or anyone who loves mixing patterns at the table. Absolutely stunning! Imagine these alongside a rustic charcuterie board or with a summer salad piled high, the kind of vintage charm that makes mealtime memorable.

Grapefruit Salad with Goat Cheese & Walnuts

This grapefruit salad is the perfect way to use up the sweet pink grapefruit that are just sitting in the fruit bowl. It's summer love on a plate, makes a beautiful display on any serving platter and with just four main ingredients, it's incredibly easy to prepare.

Grapefruit Salad with Goat Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 2 sweet pink grapefruit, peeled and sliced

  • 3-4 cups crunchy spring mix

  • ½ cup fresh goat cheese, crumbled

  • ½ cup walnuts, toasted if desired

  • Olive oil

  • Sweet balsamic vinegar (I used a strawberry peach white balsamic, but any sweet balsamic will work wonderfully)

  • Sea Salt & freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Arrange the grapefruit slices across your favorite luncheon plate.

  2. Pile the spring mix over the fruit.

  3. Add crumbles of goat cheese and scatter the walnuts on top.

  4. Drizzle with olive oil and a splash of sweet balsamic vinegar.

  5. Finish with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

That’s it...a bright, easy, fresh and fast salad that balances sweet, tangy, and savory flavors all in one bite. The walnuts and goat cheese create a satiety that lasts for hours, but if you are looking for more protein, grilled chicken or shrimp would be an amazing addition to this dish.

Vintage Plates and a Seasonal Grapefruit Salad: Wrapping It Up

This week brought two very special glassware finds, Indiana Glass Harvest Grape luncheon plates and Federal Glass Pioneer Fruit plates, each tell their own story of mid-century charm. I love discovering pieces like these, not only for their beauty but also for the history they carry into today’s kitchens and tables. Both sets are available now on our website, so if you’ve been looking to add a touch of vintage character to your collection, these plates are an awesome addition to any table.

And what about this easy summer salad, the recipe itself deserves its own spotlight. Fast, easy, refreshing, and just the kind of dish that works on any table, whether you’re serving it on vintage glassware or your everyday favorites.

Here’s to celebrating both timeless finds and seasonal flavors, and to welcoming the cozy season ahead.

As always, happy creating and hunting vintage finds!

Jennifer
