Melon and Prosciutto with Honey Lime Mint Dressing. Sweet cantaloupe, delicate prosciutto, and a garden-fresh honey lime mint dressing make this easy appetizer feel like a special occasion.

There are some recipes that hardly feel like recipes at all yet somehow manage to be the prettiest thing on the table. Melon and prosciutto are one of those combinations. A few slices of ripe cantaloupe, thin ribbons of salty prosciutto, and suddenly you have an appetizer that looks like you planned an entire garden party around it.
But what makes this version especially good is the dressing.
Raw honey, fresh lime juice, minced mint, and a little lemon and purple basil turn an already delicious pairing into something bright, fresh, and just a little unexpected. It takes only minutes to whisk together, but it brings the whole platter to life.
Whether you are hosting friends, putting together a summer brunch, or simply looking for an easy way to use a beautiful cantaloupe, this is one of those simple dishes that feels special without asking much of you.
Why Melon and Prosciutto Work So Well Together
Cantaloupe and prosciutto are a classic pairing for a reason. The melon is sweet, juicy, and refreshing, while the prosciutto adds a delicate, salty richness.
The honey lime mint dressing builds on that contrast. Honey enhances the natural sweetness of the cantaloupe, lime adds brightness, and mint gives everything a fresh, garden-inspired finish.
A pinch of ground lemon basil and purple basil adds another layer of flavor. You do not need much. Just enough to make someone pause after that first bite and ask what you put in the dressing.
This is the kind of recipe that proves a handful of thoughtful ingredients can do more than a long list of complicated ones.
Ingredients for Melon and Prosciutto
For the Melon and Prosciutto
1 ripe cantaloupe
Approximately 8 to 12 thin slices of prosciutto, depending on the number of wedges
Fresh mint sprigs for garnish, optional
For the Honey Lime Mint Dressing
4 tablespoons raw honey
1 tablespoon avocado oil or any light oil of your choice
3 tablespoons lime juice
1/2-1 tablespoon minced fresh mint (Start with 1/2 of a tablespoon, if you are not using basil,
add the other 1/2 tablespoon)
⅛ teaspoon ground lemon basil
⅛ teaspoon ground purple basil
Pinch of pink Himalayan salt
Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Whisk the honey and lime juice together first, then slowly whisk in the avocado oil. Stir in the herbs and seasonings afterward.
How to Make Melon and Prosciutto with Honey Lime Mint Dressing
Step 1: Prepare the Cantaloupe
Wash the outside of the cantaloupe before cutting it. Slice it in half, scoop out the seeds, and cut each half into wedges.
Carefully remove the rind from each wedge, keeping the pieces large enough to hold their shape when wrapped.
Depending on the size of your cantaloupe, you should get approximately 8 to 12 wedges.

Step 2: Wrap the Melon with Prosciutto
Wrap one slice of prosciutto around the center of each cantaloupe wedge.
Prosciutto is delicate, so there is no need to wrap it tightly. Let it fall naturally around the melon for a relaxed, pretty presentation.
Arrange the wrapped wedges on a serving platter, leaving a little space between them so the dressing can reach each piece.
Step 3: Whisk Together the Dressing
In a small bowl, combine the raw honey, lime juice, oil, minced fresh mint, ground lemon basil, ground purple basil, pink Himalayan salt, and black pepper.
Whisk until the honey is fully incorporated and the dressing looks smooth.
If your honey is thick, let the mixture sit for a minute or two, then whisk again. Bringing the honey to room temperature before mixing also helps.
Taste the dressing and adjust as needed. If you prefer a brighter citrus flavor, add a little more lime juice. If your cantaloupe is not particularly sweet, an extra touch of honey can help balance it.
Step 4: Drizzle and Serve
Spoon or drizzle the honey lime mint dressing over the prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe wedges.
Scatter additional fresh mint over the platter, if desired, and serve immediately.
For the prettiest presentation, tuck a few small mint sprigs around the edges of the serving platter. It gives the whole dish that fresh from the garden look without requiring anything elaborate.
Choosing a Good Cantaloupe
Because this recipe has so few ingredients, a ripe cantaloupe makes a noticeable difference.
Look for a melon that feels heavy for its size and has a pleasant, sweet aroma near the stem end. The rind should have a warm, creamy color beneath the netting rather than a strong green cast.
The melon should feel firm overall, with just a little give at the blossom end.
If your cantaloupe is underripe, the dressing will still add flavor, but a naturally sweet, juicy melon is what makes this appetizer really shine.
What If You Do Not Have Lemon Basil or Purple Basil?
Lemon basil and purple basil are not always easy to find unless you grow them yourself, but that should not stop you from making this dressing. You can often find purple basil in Asian markets or farmers markets. I grow my own basil varieties and then dry them, but let me tell you, if you can find these basils or grow them from seed, the flavor of these two basils together ground up into the dressing...wow, there is nothing like it.
Try one of these substitutions:
Regular dried basil: Replace the lemon basil and purple basil with ¼ teaspoon dried ground sweet basil.
Fresh basil: Use approximately 1 teaspoon finely minced fresh sweet basil.
Fresh basil and lime zest: Combine 1 teaspoon minced fresh basil with a small pinch of lime zest for a bright, garden-fresh flavor.
Extra mint: Leave out the basil and add a little more fresh mint.
No substitution: The honey, lime juice, and mint are flavorful enough to stand beautifully on their own.
My favorite alternative would be fresh sweet basil with a little lime zest. It keeps the dressing light and aromatic while using ingredients readers can find more easily.

Easy Ways to Serve This Recipe
Melon and prosciutto with honey lime mint dressing works well for:
Summer brunches and garden parties
Bridal showers and baby showers
Charcuterie boards and appetizer platters
Patio dinners and outdoor entertaining
Light lunches alongside a simple salad
Holiday gatherings when you want something fresh among richer appetizers
For a larger gathering, cut the cantaloupe into smaller pieces, wrap each piece with a strip of prosciutto, and secure it with a toothpick. Serve the dressing on the side or drizzle it over the platter just before guests arrive.
The wedges also pair nicely with fresh mozzarella, burrata, arugula, or crusty bread if you want to turn the appetizer into a more complete spread.
Can You Make It Ahead?
You can prepare the dressing ahead of time and store it in a covered container in the refrigerator. Give it a good stir before serving, since the honey may settle or thicken as it chills.
The cantaloupe can also be cut ahead and refrigerated separately.
For the best texture and presentation, wrap the melon with prosciutto shortly before serving and add the dressing at the last minute. This helps keep the prosciutto from becoming overly damp and prevents the platter from collecting too much liquid.
A Simple Recipe That Feels Like Summer
I love recipes that look beautiful without requiring a lot of fuss, and this melon and prosciutto appetizer is exactly that.
The cantaloupe is sweet, the prosciutto adds just the right amount of salt, and the honey lime mint dressing brings everything together with a fresh, herby finish.
It is simple enough to make for yourself on an ordinary afternoon, but pretty enough to place in the center of the table when company comes over. Sometimes, that is all a good recipe needs to be.
As summer begins to wind down, this simple dish feels like a celebration of everything that has been growing through the long, hot season. The melons have ripened on the vine, and the mint and basil have kept pushing out fragrant leaves despite the summer heat. Before we welcome the flavors of fall, this is a lovely way to gather up summer’s sweetness, bring it to the table, and enjoy the garden’s final gifts.
As always, enjoy!!
